For this experiment my purpose was to investigate the relationship of carbon availability, light, and their impact on photosynthesis. My job was to determine whether or not significant rates of photosynthesis were occurring in spinach leaves placed in distilled water and sodium bicarbonate solutions while in light and dark environments. For exercise 2 the purpose was to design a study to investigate factors that may influence rates of photosynthesis.

Questions: two ways to improve experiment? what are other ways to figure out what influences the rate of photosynthesis? what is another way to determine whether or not significant rates of photosynthesis were occurring in spinach leaves placed in distilled water and sodium bicarbonate? solutions while in light and dark environments.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Ans 1- two ways to improve experiment are-

- At a time , only one variable should be tested .

- collected data should be analysed properly.

Ans 2-Other ways to determine, that what influences the rate of photosynthesis are-

- Moll's half leaf experiment to show that CO2 , light , chlorophyll and water are necessary for photosynthesis.

- Experiment to compare rates of photosynthesis while being under different conditions with the help of Wilmott's bubbler.

- Experiment showush effect of different wavelengths of light over the process of photosynthesis using Ganongs light screen.

Ans 3-When the sodium bicarbonate is being added to water, the bicarbonate ion here acts as a source of carbon for photosynthesis, which causes the leaf disks to sink. So, as a rezulr, the rate at which the disk is rising is indirectly proportional to the net rate of photosynthesis.
