Answer #1

Explain how the body metabolizes carbohydrates and amino acids in the short term fasting states (prior to using up all your glycogen)

Answer:

During the short term fasting glucose levels start to deplete, glycolysis will shut off in cells and fatty acids are converted into acetyl CoA and make ATP through krebs cycle. Pyruvate, lactate, and alanine from muscle instead of entering into krebs cycle goes to the liver for glucose synthesis. Glycerol from fatty acid can be used as a source for gluconeogenesis. Ketones are also produced from fatty acids and triglyceride stores for gluconeogenesis.

Biologically, how expensive are you? The elements that make up the typical adult body can be purchased from chemical supply companies for about $3,000-$4,000. However, each of those elements must be chemically bonded to together to produce the complex biological molecules of life (proteins, nucleic acids, carbohydrates, lipids). Using sophisticated laboratory equipment, highly trained scientists can synthesize these complex biological molecules from basic elemental building blocks, but this costs millions of dollars! Consider the differences in worth between the elemental...
