Describe the mechanism in BACTERIA for repair of DNA containing mismatches, chemically modified bases, and double strand breaks. List sources for thumbs up, please.
Mechanisms in the bacteria for the repair of
1. DNA containing mismatches :
Mismatch repair mechanism
In this mechanism it recognizes the incorrectly placed nucleotides in the DNA
Mut S, Mut H and Mut L - cleavage of the mismatched nucleotide
Exonuclease - excision of the mismatched nucleotide
Ligase - sealing of the DNA after excision of mismatched nucleotide
In this way , the mismatched nucleotide is removed from the DNA
2. Chemically modified bases :
DNA glycocylase - recognizes the chemically modified bases
Endonuclease - cleavage of the chemically modified bases from the phosphodiester backbone
DNA polymerase 1 - to correct the DNA base
3. Double stranded breaks : has 2 mechanisms .they are
A. Homologous recombination - no loss of nucleotide
B. Non-homologous end joining - loss of nucleotide
