define the term phase 1 metabolism and phase 2 metabolism using farxiga
Metabolism of the drug represents the breakdown of drug or any molecules into active or inactive compounds in order to eliminate the same from the body. There are two phases of metabolism.
1. Phase 1: During phase 1 drug molecule is either activated or deactivated mainly by three types of chemical modification namely oxidation, reduction and hydrolysis. Farxgia (dapaglifoziine) is converted into its hydroxylated metabolite during phase 1 by the cyp enzyme in liver.
Phase 2: During phase 2 reaction the drug molecule is congugated with polar compounds like glucuronide, glycine etc. Farxgia is congugated with glucuronide during phase 2 metabolism.
