Glycolysis does not require oxygen , The fate of pyruvate molecules depends on whether oxygen is present.
IF oxygen is not present pyruvate gets converted to lactate, and no additional ATP is produced in this reaction but when oxygen is present , Pyruvate is transported to mitochondrial matrix
SO oxidation of pyruvate takes place in mitochondrial matrix .
a)A carboxyl group is removed from pyruvate releasing carbon dioxide.
b)NAD+ is reduced to NADH where an acetyl group is transferred to coenzymeA resulting in acetylcoA.
