Write a summary (net) reaction for pyrimidine biosynthesis. Don’t forget ATPs, NADHs, FADH2s, etc. What is the key enzyme in the purine biosynthesis pathway?
Pyrimidine biosynthesis take place in the cytoplasm. It requires the binding of aspartic and carbomyl phosphate to form carbomylaspartate which is catalysed by aspartate transcarbamoylase enzyme. Overall the pyrimidine biosynthesis requires glutamine , aspartate , ATP , NADH,FADH2 and CO2 . At first the pyrimidine is synthesized as a free ring and then added to a phosphate sugar. The carbomyl phosphate is produce by biacarbonate ion and amide nitrogen of glutamine .
Purine biosynthesis requires three enzymes myoadenylate deaminase , adenylosuccinate synthetase and adenylosuccinate lyase. But the main enzyme is aspartate transcarbamoylase.
