Answer-

According to the given question-

  • Bacteria which causes disease are called Virulence and produces factors which helps the bacteria in several way such as
    • invading the host,
    • helps in causing disease,
    • also helps from evading host defenses.
  • Bacteria produce some poisonous substances which is called toxins. these toxins are of two types
    • Exotoxins are secreted by bacteria into surrounding environment which includes several protein toxins and enzymes such as enterotoxins, neurotoxins and cytotoxins.
    • Endotoxins are released by bacteria when it was killed by host immune system. e.g. lipopolysaccharide endotoxins released from Gram-negative bacteria which is responsible for causing inflammation, fever, blood pressure change, and  lethal shock.

Fermenting bacteria have characteristic sugar fermentation patterns, i.e., they can metabolize some sugars but not others. For example, Neisseria meningitidis ferments glucose and maltose, but not sucrose and lactose, while Neisseria gonorrhoea ferments glucose, but not maltose, sucrose or lactose. Such fermentation patterns can be used to identify and classify bacteria. During the 1860s, the French microbiologist Louis Pasteur studied fermenting bacteria. He demonstrated that fermenting bacteria could contaminate wine and beer during manufacturing, turning the alcohol produced by yeast...

Some shrubs have the useful ability to resprout from their roots after their tops are destroyed. Fire is a particular threat to shrubs in dry climates, as it can injure the roots as well as destroy the aboveground material. One study of resprouting took place in a dry area of Mexico. The investigation clipped the tops of samples of several species of shrubs. In some cases, they also applied a propane torch to the stumps to simulate a fire. Of...

Some cell walls in the human body have a layer of negative charge on the inside surface and a layer of positive charge of equal magnitude on the outside surface. Suppose that the charge density on either surface is ± 0.50×10−3 C/m2, the cell wall is 5.1 nm thick, and the cell-wall material is air. Notes about Problem 18.77 and a Hint for Part D: The cell wall/membrane creates a separation of charge between the inside and outside of a...
