  2. Can a drone be a female? Why or why not?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

A: Sexual reproduction is an ancient feature of life on earth, and the familiar X and Y chromosomes in humans and other model species have led to the impression that sex determination mechanisms are old and conserved. In fact, males and females are determined by diverse mechanisms that evolve rapidly in many taxa. Yet this diversity in primary sex-determining signals is coupled with conserved molecular pathways that trigger male or female development.

B: No, drone cannot be female bcoz drone consist of sperm.Drones carry only one type of allele at each chromosomal position, because they are haploid .The result is a haploid egg, with chromosomes having a new combination of alleles at the various loci.

Assignment Details As we have discussed throughout the course, corporate scandals caused the public to lose confidence in corporate Americana and the accounting profession. Many users of financial information feel that transparency is lacking in financial reporting and more needs to be done in this area so that investors, creditors and other stakeholders feel comfortable in making decisions based on the information released by the organizations. 4. This semester, we have discussed the ways in which legal institutions are responsive to voters – for example, through elections of representatives who write and pass legislation, and through the election of district attorneys. Many state court judges in New York are also elected, but federal judges across the country are appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate, and then serve for life. What are the pros and cons of a system by which judges are appointed?...

As we have discussed in the class, nonverbal codes have many functions including reinforcing, replacing or contradicting the verbal message. They can also regulate interactions, create immediacy and deceive. There are a large variety of nonverbal cues (some that you might not have considered before such as artifacts, environment and silence). Being aware of nonverbal codes is important to effective communication when being the sender of the message, the receiver, or even being an observer of communication. Therefore, for the...

Many statistical methods and techniques we are looking at are intrinsically related and/or provide different views at the same underlying phenomena. This week you read about contingency tables. As we discussed, this is a way to examine possible association between two (categorical) variables. An example we have considered was association between patient's sex and remission status. We know other methods for testing for associations (not necessarily perfectly fit for the specific problem). Can you think about setting up a linear...

In class, we discussed the famous cancer cell line known as HeLa cells, which were named after Henrietta Lacks, the woman that the cells were isolated from. Henrietta was diagnosed with cervical cancer in 1951 and treated at Johns Hopkins. At the time, little was known about cancer genetics, so the doctors treated her cancer with high doses of radiation, which induces DNA damage and was a standard treatment option at the time. Unfortunately, the treatment caused Henrietta’s cancer to...

Sex Education and Teenage Pregnancy Santrock (2016) mentions in his text that the United States has one of the highest teenage pregnancy rates of industrialized nations, despite the fact that adolescent sexual activity is no higher in the United States. Why is that? For starters, sex during adolescence is considered a "taboo" subject in our culture. Abstinence is also promoted and touted as the most safest, surefire way to avoid the consequences of early sexual activity. Additionally, we teach teens...
