Why do we want to exclude water from a Simple Structure-Activity-Relationship (SAR) Study Using Chemiluminescent Esters
SAR studies the differences in enzymatic activities of an enzyme towards various electron-withdrawing or donating groups. This is done by the measurement of chemiluminescence to study structure-function relationships. However, since this method relies on the electron-withdrawing and donating properties, water could interfere with the process as water is a nucleophile, or electron donor. So, the SAR study requires all the tubes to be dried well to remove interference from water molecules.
