With respect to viruses, what do the following terms mean?
a) Temperate
b) Induction
c) Prophage
d) Lysogen
1. Temperate- It is affected by infection virus particularly bacteriophage is known as temperate or known as latent. It is known as temperate because the virus does not cause immediate cell death.
2. Induction- It is also known as zygotic induction. It occurs specially when the bacterial cell carrying the DNA with the viral DNA into the new host cell.
3. Prophage- It is a type of bacteriophage. In prophage the genome is firstly inserted and then Integrated into the circular bacterial DNA chromosomes or sometimes exist as extrachromosmal plasmid. The prophage is made up of viral DNA.
4. Lysogen- It is also known as lysogenic cycle. It is a method by which virus can replicate it's DNA by using a host cell. In this only DNA is replicated and DNA is not translated into the Protein.
