Answer #1

answer to question: well, as it is said , both theories Gradualism and Punctuated equilibrium describe the rate of Speciation , but both of these theories can be related to, change in biodiversity, for the different pace they hold.

  • for Gradualism , changes in species are slow, steady pace ,they occur in small periodic changes in the gene pool, and usually happens uniformly ,and these big changes occur from small cumulative changes over time .Gradualism since involves selection and variation , that accounts for its gradual nature .
  • for Punctuated equilibrium : on the other hand, species diverge much quickly , these changes are abrupt and rapid and followed by long periods of no change , then again a quick and rapid change in species.
  • but it is to be kept in mind , that both these changes results in divergence of species .
