Species richness is the number of different specices present in an landscape or region. It is only a count of species and not the abundance or frequency.

In wetland there is planty of water which leads to sustain the variety of species and also getting food from wetland is easier for microbes which lead to increase in their population. Increased micro-population is a food for small insects and pests which directly increases the population of small creatures and ao on...but in case of temperate broadleaf area there is lesa availability of both food and sunlight, which inversely affect the growth and reproduction of plants and animals. Other haras conditions like protection is not easy, sustaining the life processes is also difficult are also the main reasons behind the cause of low species diversity in broadleaf temperate aeeas.
