1. Eventhough there is a plenty of differences, chordates wich incluiding animals and echinoderms including starfish shows many similarity.
Both are belongs to dueterostomes. Probably share common ancestor. having similar pattern of development during early embryonic stage.
Echinoderms have radial symmetry while chordates having bilatera.
2. In 1928 Walter Garstang hypothesized that, tunicate resemble the ancestral stock of the vertibrae. Tadpole larvae of tunicate bear all the right atributes to qualify as a possible vertibrate ancestor, notochord,hollow dorsal nerve cord,pharyngeal slits, endostyle and post anal tail.
