Be able to describe some problems that can occur to disrupt/alter blood flow and treatment methods
BP ---------- Resistance (length, friction, diameter) ----------- Viscosity -------------- Turbulence
1.Resistance
Resistance effect blood flow and blood pressure. The factors which effect the resistance are length , diameter and viscosity. As length of blood vessels increases the resistance increase. Diameter of blood vessels is inversely proportional to the resistance and resistance is directly proportional to the viscosity.
As resistance increase blood pressure increases and blood flow decreases.
2. Viscosity
Viscosity increases resistance and thereby increases the work of the heart. Viscosity is affected temperature. Viscosity increases with decrease in temperature and viscosity decreases with increase in temperature.
3. Terbulance
Normally in the flow is laminar . Terbulance occurs when the flow is disrupted as in atherosclerotic plaque. Terbulance increases blood velocity to compensate the volume.
