Answer #1

When we perform anaerobic exercise lactic acid is produced in our muscles.

This lactic acid releases hydrogen ions in the body. These ions decrease the pH of the blood and lead to acidosis which results in decreased performance.

If we ingest sodium bicarbonate. It produces two ions namely sodium and bicarbonate. This bicarbonate buffers the release of hydrogen ions produced in the body.

This increases the pH of the blood and thus helps in decreasing the acidosis.

A is incorrect as it does not increase plasma hydrogen ions concentration.

B is incorrect.

C is correct as it decreases hydrogen ion concentration.

D is incorrect as it does not induces acidosis.

So, the correct answer is C.
