a) Jimmy arrives in her physician’s office complaining of severe, steady pain in the upper right quadrant of her abdomen. The pain began shortly after she ate a meal of fried chicken, French fries, and peas. Lab tests and an ultrasound reveal the presence of gallstones in the common bile duct running from the liver, gall bladder, and pancreas into the small intestine. Explain how gallstones affect the digestion of food that Jimmy has just ingested. (7 marks )
Ans:-
concept :- fat molecules are very large and hydrophobic . So digestive enzymes can't easily act on it .
Now to assist the digestion of fats present in food , this fat molecules are emulsified into small small molecules or picese so that there surface area increases and digestive enzymes can easily act on it.
This process is carried out by biliary secretion which contain bile salt and bile pigment.
when Jimmy took fat rich food , this food stimulate contraction of gall bladder to release bile but as exist pathway i.e common bile duct is closed so bile can't move out, in a further attempt gall bladder contract more vigorously to release bile which causes the pain sysmptom.
