Think about a population mean that you may be interested in and propose a hypothesis test problem for this parameter. (Option 1)

I asked 10 of my coworkers how many times they cook dinner on a weekly basis. The results were 6,5,5,1,4,7,2,5,4,3.

The mean of my coworkers who cook dinner on a weekly basis that cook dinner are 5 times.

Answer #1

H0: = 5 , Ha: 5

From the given data,

= 4.2 , S (Standard deviation) = 1.8135

Critical value at 95% confidence level with 9 df = -2.262, 2.262

Critical region = Reject H0 if test statistics t < -2.262 or test statistics t > 2.262

Test statistics

t = (  - ) / (S / sqrt(n) )

= (4.2 - 5) / 1.8135 / sqrt(10)

= -1.395

Since test statistics falls in non-rejection region, we do not have sufficient evidence to reject H0.

We conclude at 0.05 level that we fail to support the claim.

Think about a population mean that you may be interested in and propose a confidence interval problem for this parameter. Your data values should be approximately normal.
