Describe how and why maintaining the position of full knee extension limits the ability to maximally flex the hip both actively and passively. Does maintaining excessive hip flexion limit the ability to accomplish full knee extension? Consequently, describe how and why maintaining the position of full knee flexion limits the ability to maximally extend the hip both actively and passively. Does maintaining excessive hip extension limit the ability to accomplish full knee flexion?
the muscles help in movement of knee are orginates from hip bone.so movement of knee and hip are interconnected. sartorius , vastum medialis , rectus femoris , hamstring groups of muscles are orginates from hip and connected to knee
the muscle which causing extension of knee are sartorius and quadriceps muscles . which on contraction the muscle fibres will be shotened. so that cannot maintain or generate active tension. at this stage active and passive movment like flexion of hip will be difficult.
similarly while flexion of knee , the muscle like hamstrings are shortened and functional insufficiency ocurs. so active or passive extension of hip will be difficult.
