First, pretend I gave you fifteen dollars to purchase food (in this pretend world there is no such thing as taxes). Go to a fast food restaurant, look at the menu, and see how much you can purchase (I am not encouraging you to buy anything and I hope you will not). Your items should include something to eat and something to drink. Make a list of everything you could buy. You must use as much of the money as possible (at least $14). Then, go to a grocery store and see how much you can purchase for the same fifteen dollars (again, I am not encouraging you to buy anything and you do not need to buy anything to complete this assignment). Again, make a list of everything you could buy and use as much of the money as possible. For comparative purposes, the end meals should be as similar as possible.

Second, discuss your findings. To make your comparison easier to see (for you and for your classmates), put your findings in a chart with your items either side by side or one right after the other before you begin your discussion. Your discussion and comparison should include the approximate number of meals/servings you could make from your purchases, any differences in calories between the two, and should also address any differences in fat content between the two.  Also suggest a similar but healthier meal you could purchase from the grocery store.

Answer #1

SOLUTION

The list of items that can be bought using $15 are as follows:

Specifications Fast Food Grocery Store
10-Chicken McNugetts = $4.49

Milk, 1 gallon = $1.85

Grande Mocha Frappuccino = $4.56

Unsalted butter, 16 oz = $2.56
Chicken Sandwich Combo = $5.95

Ground beef 80/20, 1 lb = $2.79

Ground coffee, 11.5-12 oz.= $3.79

Diced tomatoes, 14.5 oz. = $0.35

Apple juice, 64 fl oz. = $1.09

Boneless chicken breast, 1 lb. = $1.89

Total Expenditure 4.49+4.56+5.95 = $15

1.85+2.56+2.79+3.79+0.35+1.09+1.89 = 14.32

This experiment shows that buying things from Grocery store and cooking is cheaper than that of

buying food items from Fast food restaurant.

I have a tricky dilution question. You have a stock solution of methylene blue at 1g/100ml. Make 250ul of methylene blue at a concentration of 150ug/100ml with as little waste as possible (have as little excess as possible). So I have the dilution formula C1V1 = C2V2. That means (1g/100ml)V1 = (150ug/100ml)(250ul). I converted C1 to ug and got 106ug/100ml which reduces down to 104ug/1ml. Please correct anything I may have wrong. Next I cnverted V2 to ml to keep...

DISCUSSION- PRODUCTION THEORY First, the idea that firms (and individuals) should make decisions on how they optimize "on the margin" (where MC=MR). Often people get confused and think about making decisions based on the average (such as average total cost). Average total cost includes FIXED costs, which are sunk and should not influence future decisions. Second, the idea of diminishing marginal returns. That's the idea that each additional unit provides less benefit than the previous unit consumed. Use these concepts...

It affects the job you have, the wage you earn, the taxes you pay, the groceries and necessities you buy and the luxuries you may want.
