If the debit and credit totals of a trial balance are not equal, it could be due to the following type of error:

A.Incorrectly calculating the debit side total of the trial balance

B.Recording the same transaction more than once

C.Failure to record a transaction

D.Recording the same erroneous amount for both the debit and the credit sides of a transaction

Homework Answers

Answer #1

If the amount of debits and credits are not equal then it may be due to Incorrectly calculating the debit side total of the trial balance.

On the other side, Recording the same transaction more than once , would still tally trial balance because debits and credit would still be same.

.Failure to record a transaction, would still tally trial balance because in this case also debits and credits would be equal as in this case amount would not be recorded for neither debit nor for credit.

Recording the same erroneous amount for both the debit and the credit sides of a transaction, would still tally trial balance because even the though the amount is erroneous then also the debits and credits would be equal.

Hence correct answer is option no.(A)
