Question 2

One of Sonic Selection’s major priorities is to maintain a competitive edge over the many others that are in direct competition with them. For Sonic Selection to grow, they need to expand their customer base, and ensure that their product is being marketed to the right individuals. For the marketing team to plan and execute the most effective marketing strategies, they decide to analyse the available data to gain valuable insights into the market.

Before customers can purchase music from Sonic Selection’s platforms, they must register by filling in a basic online questionnaire. This information gets stored in a database, and can be used by marketing researchers to inform marketing strategies. For example, the registration form could collect data regarding demographic characteristics, or data related to customer preferences.

List two types of customer data that could be collected through the customer registration process, and describe how the marketing team could use each type to inform decision-making. (Max. 100 words per type of data listed.)

Answer #1

01. Interested Languages: Customers may be asked to input the languages of music they are interested in at the time of registration. Giving an option to the customers to choose their interested languages helps in sorting out the right language of songs for the right person. This can help in filtering out music from other languages that the customer is not interested in and presenting him with music from those languages that he prefer most.

02. Genre of Music: A list of genre of music can be provided to the customer at the time of registration from which he could choose the type of music he likes. Collecting information regarding the genre of music the customer likes helps in providing the right type of music for the right customer. This helps in reducing the time and effort put in by the customer to search and find the right type of songs he want.
