I think it is inappropriate in schools. Kids should know about it, but this is something that parents need to talk to their kids about. Different families have different views, and not all teachers will be able to keep their personal opinions out of the discussions. I would want my daughter to know about same sex marriages, and I want her to grow up being tolerant of all people, but I want to be the one to share my values and views with her.

I think if a student asks about it, then the teacher should be able to answer from an objective point of view, without giving their opinions on the subject. The answer needs to be age appropriate, and the teacher should tell the student to talk to their parents.
