Since this is a variegated yarn, I would find some space dyed roving to start with. Spin-Off magazine has a lot of ads for places that sell this type of roving. When you get some, pull off an 18" long piece. Split the piece down the length several times. This will keep the colors from blending too much. Then spin each piece checking your thickness as you go.
