When teaching, do you feel that the students are more or less like your children, or do you just teach them like as if its just your teaching job? If yes, then why do you feel they're like your children?

I think when I am in the act of teaching I just feel like they are my students. That is not to say that I don't care about them or have any maternal feelings for them, but I think I get very focused on instilling knowledge in them and that overrides everything else. I do try to motivate and build confidence while in class, though, so I think that could be me leaning towards the other side.

When I am not teaching, I feel like my students are my kids. When they are in trouble, I have watched myself go above and beyond to help them, defend them, reprimand them, and take care of them. I sort of feel like nobody messes with my kids...and if you do you mess with me (LOL). Sounds silly, but it's true. Of course, there are plenty that don't fit into the category of being "my kid" because they are more interested in being an enemy than anything.

Why do I feel like they are my kids at times? I don't know, really. I think I can look at them and see them as children, even though I teach high school. I see the stupid mistakes they make and the naive opinions that they have...I see others attack them because they don't have a support system to back them up... I see them as being kids and because they are in my class I feel a need to protect them and take care of them (to some extent).
