I just got two new tortoises from Africa (i live in Spain), we've had them for a few days and we've just noticed they had ticks .. (quite a lot actually) my mum pulled all the visible ones off and killed them, but i was wondering could there be more under the shell or any more hidden places? & most importantly, could this be harmful to my other pets (cats & dogs) :( thanks x

Take it to a veterinarian that specializes in reptiles to answer this. They may have some form of tick dip solution that'll kill any under the shell you can't see without harm to the tortoises. Those ticks could carry diseases that can be harmful to both you and your pets, I'd advise to allow a professional to answer this and hopefully you have a specimen tick so they can give you an answer.
