To be honest, after working in a pet store for 5 years, I can say that snakes do have personalities. Some, like yours, simply are more timid than others. The biting is his way of telling you he is nervous or scared. As with many animals, the more nervous you are, the more nervous he will be. If he is small enough that the bites do not do any real damage, sometimes the best way to train them not to bite is to "take the bite". Pick him up GENTLY, staying away from his face, and let him just coil around your hands, do not jerk your hand away (this is tough, I know) if he strikes at you. Eventually he will realize that biting does not make you go away, and he should give up on it. Make sure to wash your hands before and after handling him. If this is a habit you cannot seem to break him of, then you may have a pet that is just there for you to enjoy watching, rather than handling.
