I live in a private road in the UK, i.e one that was adopted by the residents some years ago. Recently, the only street light broke down. My question is, who's job is it to repair the light, the residents or the local authorities ? I know residents are responsible for surface repairs, but the light is connected to the public streetlights' electricity, so does that mean the authoriies do the repair ?

You need to consult your council. In some cases, but NOT all, they do provide the street lighting on private roads.
