The only similarity is they are both ways to get rid of things that you no longer want. The differences are big, a landfill is a place where you will bury it and it could take thousands of years to degrade and make the land unusable for most purposes, it creates pollution because it releases methane as things break down, it contains large amounts of harmful chemicals that will likely leach back into our water and soil at some point. Recycling takes a material and allows it to be put back to use, it reduces pollution, contains and reuses many harmful chemicals and allows our land to be used for more purposes. Recycling also allows us to conserve resources the more metal we recycle the less we have to mine.
