Is the stationary bike good for fitness?

I have just bought a bik and I used it last night for 30 mins and I'll slowly build it up from there. I don't neccessarily want to lose weight but maintain now :) Any suggestions?

I was walking but the weather is very cold now and it's very dark outside so I can't do that and I used to do cardio aerobics but I've moved into a very small apartment. And I can't go afford the gym.

You want to pedal at a higher cadence 70-90 rpm's with a lite pressure on the pedals. You want to add just enough resistance to get your breathing to the point where you can still talk but not sing. Spinning fast with lite pressure will allow your body to burn fat as fuel and wont tire out your legs as fast. Pedaling slow and mashing on the pedals will cause your body to use glycogen as fuel and will tire you legs quickly.
