for the stem-leaf system illustrated in the below diagram.

Find Maximum and minimum values and the Range.

For the stem -leaf diagram shown on the previous question find the mean, mode, and the median:

stems (ones)- leaves (tenths)

2    2,4,5,8

3    0,1,3

4    6,7

5    3,5,5

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Minimum is the very first observation i,e, 22

and maximum is the very last observation 55

So range = 55-22 = 33

Median : Here there are 12 obervations . So. 6th and 7th observation will be median . So , 31 and 33 are median , or their arithmeatic mean = 32 can also be considered as median .

Note that only the value 55 is repeated twice , all other values come only once . SO, 55 has the highest frequency . So mode is 55 .

Note that stem andleaf diagram isnot very useful/helpful in calculationg mean .

Mean must be calcuated in trhe classical way :

mean =

= 37.41
