2. If we take a random sample of counties in Oklahoma and look at the number of Covid-19 cases in each we could use that to estimate an average number of cases per county.

6 11 28 15 1

3 52 72 45 2

(a) Calculate the sample mean and sample variance.

(b) Assume that the numbers of cases in a county are normally distributed, and calculate a 95% confidence interval for the mean time using your sample statistics.

(c) Is this likely to actually be normally distributed? Why or why not?

I calculated the sample mean and variance through excel and got 20.133 for the mean, and 592.1238 for the variance, I don't know how to do (b) or (c) though.

3. The average pulse rate is known to be 80 beats per minutes. Suppose we take a sample of 30 adults and find that the average heart rate in the sample is 73.76 with a sample standard deviation of 7.06. We are interested in testing if the average pulse rate is actually lower than 80 beats per minute. ( please show all steps and how you got each number) a. A simple random sample of 16 adults drawn from a certain population of adults yielded a mean weight of 63kg. Assume that weights in the population are approximately normally distributed with a variance of 49. Do the sample data provide sufficient evidence for us to conclude that the mean weight for the population is less than 70 kg? Let the probability of committing a type I error be .01. 1. Suppose that we will randomly select a sample of 79 measurements from a population having a mean equal to 21 and a standard deviation equal to 8. (a) Describe the shape of the sampling distribution of the sample mean . Do we need to make any assumptions about the shape of the population? Why or why not? 2. After the 2016 presidential election, Gallup collected a random sample of 1,021 Americans and estimated that 47% of Americans wanted to keep the electoral college. One month before the election, in October 2016, another random poll of 1,100 Americans estimated that 52% wanted to keep the Electoral College. Statistically speaking, we can look at whether or not we can be sure that there was a change in opinions about keeping the Electoral College between October of 2016 and November...
