To test the hypotheses that the population mean is not equal to 2.0 when the population variance is unknown and alpha=1%. Find the p- value when a random sample of size 14 is taken and test value= t is found to be 2.5

Answer #1

Solution :

This is the two tailed test .

The null and alternative hypothesis is ,

H0 :    = 2.0

Ha :     2.0

n =14

df = n- 1 =14-1 = 13

t = 2.5

P(t(13) > 2.5)

1 - P(t(13)< 2.5)

1 - 0.9867

=0.0133

P-value = 2 * 0.0133 = 0.0266

= 0.01

P-value <

0.0266 < 0.01

Reject the null hypothesis .

There is sufficient evidence to suggest that
