Which measures of central tendency (In statistics, a central tendency is a central or typical value for a probability distribution. It may also be called a center or location of the distribution. Colloquially, measures of central tendency are often called averages.) are most often used in sport management research? Why do you think that is? Provide examples.

Answer #1

In sports management, Median is the most appropriate measure of central tendency. Since in sports mostly the data are skewed and data have outliers too And the median is least affected by outliers. For example in cricket, if player scores in the last five matches are 30, 32, 35, 38, 150 then its median is 35 while mean is 57. Here where can see that 150 is an outlier. and if we remove this point then mean is still 33.75 which is very close to the median. This is the reason why we use median as measure of central tendency in sports management.
