Create the null and alternative hypotheses for the following research problems! If you are taller, you are likely heavier!

Homework Answers

Answer #1

This kind of problem can be solved using the chi-square test of independence. One can check if the height of a person and the weight of a person are dependent or independent.

For this test height and weight would be put in buckets and the groups will be compared

Null hypothesis: the two variables height and weight are independent.

Alternate hypothesis: the two variables height and weight are dependent.

Another way to obtain the regression line between the weight and height of a person and check for the significance of the slope of the regression line.

Null hypothesis: the true value of beta or slope of the regression line of height and weight is 0.

Alternate hypothesis: the true value of beta or slope of the regression line of height and weight is not 0.

In an experiment each participant solves one of two types of problems (spatial or verbal) at one of three levels of difficulty (easy, moderate, or hard). Formulating the null and Alternative Hypothesis: Are US people taller in 2018 than in 1920? 1 point possible (graded) As in a previous problem, you try to answer the question "Were people in the U.S. taller in 2018 than in 1920, when the average height was 5.5 feet?" by sampling 1 million individuals labeled 1,2,…,106 randomly from the 2018 U.S. population.
