A researcher wishes to determine if there is a relationship between the amount of alcohol a person consumes in a week and the amount of sleep that person gets during the week. There are 200 willing participants that will be randomly selected to one of four treatment groups and the amount of alcohol and average number of hours of sleep for each group will be recorded. Help develop an experiment that this researcher could use which includes a control group, three other treatment groups, a possible confounding variable, and a solution for blocking or controlling that confounding variable. Be sure to include a rationale for why you chose your groups the way you did.
One control group could be people who drink regularly, the other three treatment groups will be regular drinking with financial problems, regular drinking with relationship problems, regular drinking due to hectic job. A possible confounding variable will be income and this confounding variable can be solved by involving drinkers to help people with their financial problems.
The groups are chosen on the basis of problems, most of the times people start drinking regularly due to some problem in their life but we can also find some people who like to drink daily but they do not drink due to a problem, drinking is their part of life or habit.
