The cholesterol level X in healthy individuals is age and sex-dependent. For males under age 21, the average reading of healthy individuals is 160mg/dl with a standard deviation of 10mg/dl. For males 21-29 years old, the mean cholesterol level is 200 mg/dl with a standard deviation of 30 mg/dl, and for males, 30 years and over, the mean cholesterol level reading is 220 mg/dl with a standard deviation of 30 mg/dl. Assuming the cholesterol level follows a normal distribution, find:

a.) P[195 < x < 224] among males whose ages are between 21 to 29 years old.

b.) A cholesterol level X0 that has the property that 12.5% of males from among those whose age is 30 years or over have a cholesterol level X lower than X0.

The serum cholesterol level of U.S. females 20 years old or older is normally distributed with a mean of 220mg.dL (milligrams per deciliter) and a standard deviation of 44 mg/dL. Let X represent serum total cholesterol level for U.S. females 20 years old or older. One outcome of interest is the probability that a woman has a serum cholesterol level greater than 266mg/dL. According to her doctor, Mrs. Brown's cholesterol level is higher than only 10% of the females aged 50 and over. The cholesterol levels among females aged 50 and over are approximately normally distributed with a mean of 235 mg/dL and a standard deviation of 25 mg/dL. What is Mrs. Brown's cholesterol level? We want to compare fasting serum cholesterol levels of Filipino women to that of the other foreign women. Assume the cholesterol levels in 20- to 39-years old women in other foreign countries is normally distributed with mean µ = 190 mg/dl. Blood tests are performed on 100 female Filipinos in this age range rendered a sample mean cholesterol level of 181.52 mg/dl and standard deviation of 40 mg/dl. Conduct a test of hypothesis to determine whether Filipino women have lower...

Suppose we want to compare fasting serum-cholesterol levels among recent Chinese immigrants to Ghana with typical levels found in the general Ghanaian population. Suppose we assume cholesterol levels in women ages 21−40 in Ghana are approximately normally distributed with mean 190 mg/dL. It is unknown whether cholesterol levels among recent Chinese immigrants are higher or lower than those in the general Ghanaian population. Let’s assume that levels among recent female Chinese immigrants are normally distributed with unknown mean μ. Hence...
