Of my students, 75% report that mathematics is a bit stressful for them. I choose a group of six students and ask them if math is stressful. (Calculate to 3 decimal places)

a) What is that probability that exactly 3 of the students say they are stressed about math?

b) what is the probability that more than 4 students say they are stressed about math?

c) Create a binomial distribution to show the possibilities.

Answer #1

a)
Here, n = 6, p = 0.75, (1 - p) = 0.25 and x = 3
As per binomial distribution formula P(X = x) = nCx * p^x * (1 - p)^(n - x)

We need to calculate P(X = 3)
P(X = 3) = 6C3 * 0.75^3 * 0.25^3
P(X = 3) = 0.132

b)
We need to calculate P(X >= 5).
P(X >= 5) = (6C5 * 0.75^5 * 0.25^1) + (6C6 * 0.75^6 * 0.25^0)
P(X >= 5) = 0.356 + 0.178
P(X >= 5) = 0.534

c)

x formula value
0 6C0 * 0.75^0 * 0.25^6 0
1 6C1 * 0.75^1 * 0.25^5 0.004
2 6C2 * 0.75^2 * 0.25^4 0.033
3 6C3 * 0.75^3 * 0.25^3 0.132
4 6C4 * 0.75^4 * 0.25^2 0.297
5 6C5 * 0.75^5 * 0.25^1 0.356
6 6C6 * 0.75^6 * 0.25^0 0.178

You are asked to do a study of shelters for abused and battered women to determine the necessary capacity I your city to provide housing for most of these women. After recording data for a whole year, you find that the mean number of women in shelters each night is 250 , with a standard deviation of 75 . Fortunately, the distribution of the number of women in the shelters each night is normal, so you can answer the following...

6. (07.04 MC) Students at a local elementary school were randomly selected to participate in a reading fluency program. The program is designed to increase their reading fluency. A total of 17 students each took a pretest before the program and posttest after the program. The mean differences in the posttest and pretest is 11. The administration decided that all students in the school would participate in the program next school year. Let µA denote the mean score of the...

For this week’s discussion, I want you to discuss with your group what you think this study is about. What is the hypothesis? What theory does it come from? What do you predict will happen (do you expect something different than the hypothesis in the researcher instructions? If so, what and why?)? Do you think...
