So, it is a one tailed hypothesis test

Using z table, check -2.9 in the left most column and 0.06 in the top row, then select the intersecting cell, we get

p value = 0.0015

so, it is clear that the p value is less than significance level of 0.01. We can reject the null hypothesis

therefore, we can conclude that proportion of those favoring stricter gun control has fallen
