Explain why strong correlations cannot be used to prove a cause-and-effect relationship and no correlations cannot be used to rule out a cause-and-effect relationship.

Answer #1

We know that correlation just check there is any linear relationship between two variables. Some time correlation values are less may due to there is non linear relationship but actually there is strong relationship with any other non linear function.

Strong correlation does not means there is caution. This can be proved with real life example.

Researcher found that, there is strong relationship between sale of ice cream products and drowning people.it does not means that if we eat lots of ice cream then you may die due to drowning.

This relationship of sale of ice cream and drowning people exists only due to summer.

Therefore we can not say amount of change in ice cream sale effects on number of drowning people.
