Data: 62, 80, 68, 74, 75

Can you determine the sample mode and calcute the standard deviation data by hand showing all work.

Answer #1

Sol

Given data

62 68 74 75 80

Sample mode = the number from the sample that is repeated more number of times

As there is no number repeated twice

There is no mode for the sample data

Standard deviation

Mean = sum of observations / n

= ( 62 + 68 +74 +75 +80) / 5

= 359/5

= 71.8

Standard deviation = ( x - mean) ^ 2 / ( n - 1)

= ( 62 - 71.8) ^ 2 + ( 68 - 71.8)^ 2 + (74-71.8)^ 2 + ( 75 - 71.8)^ 2 + ( 80 - 71.8) ^ 2/( 5 -1)

= ( 96.04 + 14.44 + 4.84 +10.24 + 67.24) / 4

= 192.8/4

= 48.2

Consider the following sample data set. 0, 50, 66, 68, 69, 72, 74, 75, 12000 Manually calculate the mean and standard deviation of the set showing all calculations in a clear detailed table. Then, in a separate table, calculate the Z-score of each data point and indicate if it is a normal data point, a potential outlier, or an outlier. Remove any outliers and completely repeat this process. What do you observe about doing this?
