You want to find out if the proboscis lengths of two species of mosquito are different. Due to the fact that you don't like getting bitten, you only collect 12 lengths for species “A”, and 8 for species “B”. A qq plot shows strong departures from normality. How would you proceed?

Here samples are come from normal distribution and sample sizes are small

So for this problem we use two samples t- test

Let u1 - population proboscis length of first species

u2 - population proboscis length of second species

Here we have to test the hypothesis,

Null hypothesis

H0 : u1=u2

Alternative hypothesis:

H1 : u1 ≠ u2 ( two sided)

we have to check the claim two lenghs are different so that's why above alternative hypothesis.
