Use a 0.01 significance level to determine if this rate is higher than the 7 percent level in the general population

Step 2:

n = 53

x = 9

Step 3:

The z-critical value for a right-tailed test, for a significance level of α=0.01

zc = 2.33

As the z stat (2.848) falls in the rejection area, we reject the Null hypothesis.

Hence we have sufficient evidence to believe that the percent of population developing gestational diabities is higher than 7.
