A student organization wondered how many hours per week college students study during a term. The organization obtained a list of all students at their university and randomly selected 100 from the list. They contacted all 100 students and all 100 provided their best estimate of the number of hours they typically study per week. A 95% confidence interval for the mean number of hours studied per week was constructed. Based on this study, to what population can we make an inference using the confidence interval?

Answer #1

Given that the student organization want to estimate mean number of hours per week college student study during exam. They find the 95% confidence interval for the mean number of hours per week college student study during exam from a random sample of 100 obtained from their University.

Therefore the population for which we make inference using the confidence interval is the number of hours week college student study in the give University.

Since random samples are selected from this university.

A class survey in a large class for first-year college students asked, "About how many hours do you study during a typical week?" There were 464 responses to the class survey. Suppose that we know that the study time follows a Normal distribution with standard deviation σ = 8.6 hours in the population of all first-year students at this university. A class survey in a large class for first-year college students asked, "About how many hours do you study in a typical week?". The mean response of the 460 students was x¯¯¯x¯ = 16 hours. Suppose that we know that the study time follows a Normal distribution with standard deviation 8 hours in the population of all first-year students at this university. What is the 99% confidence interval (±±0.001) for the population mean? Confidence interval is from  to  hours.
