If possible could you do this in pen or pencil? stats formulas and process is hard to follow when typed. I would appreciate that, please

Suppose that there is a 0.50 probability that a student who drives to campus at your college carries jumper cables. Your car has a dead battery, and you do not have jumper cables. Thus, you decide to ask students who are entering the parking lot whether they have a pair of jumper cables. Let the random variable x = number of students asked in order to find one with jumper cables.

(a) Find the probability that the third student you ask will have jumper cables.

(b)Find the probability that you will ask fewer than three students to find one who has jumper cables.

Answer #1

a) Probability that third student I ask will have a jumper cables is computed here as:

= Probability that the first two dont have jumper cable * Probability that the third student has a jumper cable

= (1 - 0.5)2*0.5

= 0.53

= 0.125

Therefore 0.125 is the required probability here.

b) Probability that I will ask fewer than three students to find one who has jumper cables is computed as:

P(X = 1) + P(X = 2) = 0.5 + 0.52 = 0.75

Therefore 0.75 is the required probability here.
