When the weather is good, builders on a site do an average of 9 hours of work with a standard deviation of 30 minutes. However, when the weather is bad, they do an average of 8 hours of work with a standard deviation of 40 minutes. If 90% of days are bad-weather days what is the probability that today was a good day if the builders worked for over 9.5 hours? (Assume the time worked is normally distributed.)

A sociologist studied gender differences in the average number of hours worked per day among employees at a law firm (there are 42 men and 19 women employed at this firm). She obtained the following results: men work, on average, 52 hour per week and women work, on average, 56 hour per week. The standard deviation for men is 12 hours and the standard deviation for women is 9 hours. Test the null hypothesis of no difference in the average...

1. According to an article published on the Web site, Facebook users spend an average of 190 minutes per month checking and updating their Facebook pages. Suppose that the current distribution of time spent per month checking and updating a member’s Facebook page is normally distributed with a mean of 190 minutes and a standard deviation of 53.4 minutes. For a randomly selected Facebook member, determine the probability that the amount of time that he or she spends per month...
