The production manager of Northern Windows, Inc., has asked you to evaluate a proposed new procedure for producing its Regal line of double-hung windows. The present process has a mean production of 80 units per hour with a population standard deviation of s = 8. The manager does not want to change to a new procedure unless there is evidence that the mean production level is higher with the new process. A sample of 100 observations show the new production procedure has an average value of 85 units per hour. Assume α = 0.05. Is the mean production level statistically higher with the new process?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

given data are:-

sample mean () = 85

population sd () = 8

sample size (n) = 100

level of significance () = 0.05

hypothesis:-

test statistic be:-

p value = 0.0000

[ using p value calculator, for z = 6.25 , one tailed test]

decision:-

p value = 0.0000 <0.05

so, we reject the null hypothesis.

conclusion:-

we conclude that,

there is enough evidence to say that the mean production level statistically higher with the new process at 0.05 level of significance.

You have been asked to determine if two different production processes have different mean numbers of units produced per hour. Process 1 has a mean defined µ1 and process 2 has a mean defined as µ2 . the null and alternative hypotheses are as follows: H0 = µ1- µ2 = 0 H1 = µ1- µ2 > 0 Using a random sample of 25 paired observations, the sample means are 50 and 60 for population 1 and 2 respectively, test the...
