In an experiment, 20 female mice got assigned (at random) to receive treatment A and 30 female mice got assigned (at random) to receive treatment B. Similarly, male mice were randomized to one of the two groups to receive treatment A or B. This design is

a block design
completely randomized
matched pairs design
none of the above

Answer #1

Sol:

(a) It is not a block design. Block designs make sure that the effect of the independent variables(treatments) on the subjects is random and so the sample is divided into multiple groups and each group then tested against the independent variable to analyse the effect which is not the case for the given scenario.

(b) completely randomized is the correct answer because that's how the subjects have been chosen for this treatmemt. Each subject has been selected for the treatment randomly.

(c) This is also not the answer. In this type of experiment, the sample is divided into pairs and each member within every pair assigned a different treatment. Their results are then compared.

So, the correct answer is (b) completely randomized
