A- Explanatory

B-Categorical variable

C-Confounding variable

D-Numerical variable

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Here number of miles commuted will be a numerical variable. This is because all the 30 students of the sample would have a numerical answer to the question on how many miles they commute to campus.

It is not an explanatory variable because there is no other variable we are interested in comparison of it with whose value this affects. It is not categorical because it takes numerical values. It is not counfounding because again there are no independent dependent scenario here.

Students at a major university are complaining of a serious housing crunch. Many of the university's students, they complain, have to commute too far to school because there is not enough housing near campus. The university officials respond with the following information: the mean distance commuted to school by students is 16.2 miles, and the standard deviation of the distance commuted is 3.1 miles. Assuming that the university officials' information is correct, complete the following statements about the distribution of...
