The A-Z pharmaceutical company has developed a new anti-anxiety drug (anxiolytic) Feelssogood. To test its effectiveness on anxiety versus 4 other common anxiolytics (Valium, Xanax, Buspar, and Lorazepam), 20 rats were randomly assigned to one of the five drug conditions and placed in an elevated plus maze. The maze has two “open arms” and two “closed arms.” Since rats are nocturnal animals, and generally avoid lighted areas, it is thought that anxiety-reducing drugs reduce the fear of exploring the “open arms.” The amount of time spent in the open arms per 15 minute test session after administration of each of the drugs is presented below.

Are the drugs different in their effectiveness in reducing anxiety at the .05 level?
Solution:-
State the hypotheses. The first step is to state the null hypothesis and an alternative hypothesis.
Null hypothesis: u1 = u2 = u3 = u4= u5
Alternative hypothesis: At-least one of the u is not equal.
Formulate an analysis plan. For this analysis, the significance level is 0.05.
Analyze sample data.
F statistics is given by:-
F = 2.0714
Fcritical = 3.056
The P-value = 0.136
Interpret results. Since the P-value (0.136) is more than the significance level (0.05), we have to accept the null hypothesis.
Conclusion:-
Do not reject H0, There is not sufficient evidence for significant differences between the different drugs.
