The following table depicts the difference in plant (grass, sedge and woody plants) numbers per 1000 sq feet collected by random sampling of a wildlife preserve in New Guinea during two successive years. Values of plant number differences were recorded. The values are counts and do not appear to be normally distributed. During the late summer of the first year, a large rodent (herbivore) was introduced to the preserve. Does it appear that the herbivore might like one type of plant over another? So, are groups different? Calculate the value of the appropriate test statistic for the following data. Make sure to use the appropriate test. Also present the means, SD’s and the probability associated with the calculated test statistic. What is our Null Hypothesis? You are to hand calculate the results.
